I had an idea: What if. Boxes of information. Instead of stream of unstructured text. This idea kept coming back, so one day I sketched a rough sketch of it. And then added a lot of details to the sketch. Then I went ahead and implemented it. And now it’s on my homepage! Go look at my homepage. I couldn’t be bothered to include an image right now. There is only 5 boxes, because idk what to put in the 6th box. Originally it was going to be photos1, but I have no idea how to handle putting that up when my website is supposed to be entirely self-contained in git with no external resources from other domains (like, idk, my digital garden). I’ve also did some testing with resizing my browser for desktop, tablet, and mobile sizes, keyboard navigation (especially the subdomain box’s focus highlighting), then finally some screen reader navigation testing (though tbh I have no idea what would be correct really, so it may still be crap, but it did influence which HTML I used). Also, I originally called these boxes, but after having to come up with a label for screen readers to make it slightly nicer, I decided to call it infoboxes. That may or may not be the name for this in the future instead of just “boxes”. Originally these would’ve been boxes with a fixed size that you can scroll the insides of. After thinking about it, I ditched that scrolling idea because of how complicated and annoying that could get to navigate. So now it’s only surface level information, and to go deeper, you click links. Eventually I’ll also reuse this to make a projects page or something too. Which currently doesn’t exist yet. Hopefully at some point in the future it exists. Is there anything else I have to say? I don’t know. I sometimes take photos now! You can see some photos on https://garden.jacksonchen666.com/g/Photography/Gallery, though be warned that loading the page could take several seconds, because MediaWiki is annoying about thumbnailing. ↩︎
