Not quite two decades ago I was over at my friends’ house when their neighbor stopped by and half-jokingly asked if anyone was interested in a cat. I went next door and found a ginormous scrawny tan monster of a tomcat who almost immediately decided I was his new best friend and demanded all of the head scratches while purring loudly enough to wake up the rest of the neighborhood.
