An email that we reproduce was sent to all members of the City of London's Court of Common Council between 7pm and 8pm last night, 27 September 2026. It conveys the news that Tim Hailes has unexpectedly stepped away from the role of Lord Mayor only a couple of days before he was due to be “elected” to the post in a process so undemocratic it would embarrass even the Russian electoral commission.
